The South African Schools Creative Writing Competition (SASCWC) was devised as a way to show what amazingly creative talent we have in South Africa when it comes to writing short stories.

I wanted to set out to find and reward creative writing amongst schools and I definitely found it.

The criteria was simple, in between 1,000 and 3,000 words, write a story about a day in the life of :

A sport star

An alien

An animal

A superhero

There were no other criteria. Judging was done on creativity and story telling and no marks were deducted for spelling, grammar or punctuation.

The prize? Well you’re holding that in your hands by picking up this book.

The proceeds from this book are going to be reinvested into printing more copies and sending to underprivileged schools throughout the country.
