Advantages
A historical fiction set 559 BC during roman emperors time period. This is an intense book, that left me reeling at times with some unexpected plot twists. It's beautifully written weaving a tale of a village who discovers the great Yaweh and loves and serves Him in the midst of God-less communities consumed with shallow lives, depravity and great evil. The village trusts in God and relies on Him when the vengeful evil attempts to swallow them. As I said it's intense, gritty, shocking at times but with hope.
Disadvantages

It took some time (about 25% in) to get into the book as this is not a genre I usually read and therefore the names, appropriate to the time, were unfamiliar and difficult to follow. Once familiar it was easy to follow. This is a clean book - no swearing, cussing and the like. And could be classed as Christian fiction as well.
Comment
trigger warning: there are descriptions of brutality, rape and torture of people. This is needed to demonstrate the moral corruption and utter wickedness of the General. While these are not graphically described nor described in more detail that is necessary, they are present and may trigger sensitive readers.
