I passionately believe that the old saying – everyone has a book inside them – is true...

David Southey was born in Middelburg, Eastern Cape in 1950. His first school, as a weekly boarder aged six, was at Culmstock Farm, some 40 km south of Mount Melsetter, where he grew up.

He arrived at St Andrew's Prep in Grahamstown as a boarder in January 1960, aged nine. Prep is a three-term school, with terms of three months each and holidays of a month each, except for

Christmas (two months). This book relates his experiences over the next three years, as best he remembers them. A couple of his good friends from school-days have also contributed some of their memories (possibly flawed).

David went on to St Andrew's College in January 1964. Thereafter, he spent some 35 years at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, practising as analyst, partner, and fund manager.

Today he is retired and spends most of his time on his farm Mt Melsetter, where he also runs leisure cycling trails.

This a must read for all those with South African blood in their genes. A nostalgic and fluent account of school days with uproariously funny stories.
We all need to laugh in these depressing times!
