Courage and confidence as Eurupe are in tatters and the author is forced into the Hitler Youth and then the German army. We were teenagers! Hitler had lost faith in the army as well as the SS.

There were about 300 of us trained at the Wehrertuchtigungslager under the command of Oberstleutnant Erich Barenfanger to become the future elite of Germany. I have never met one of my comrades again after the war. May this book become a reminder of what war can do to mankind.
At the same time, let those – irrespective of the side on which they participated – who lost their lives, serve as a constant reminder to never listen to warmongers but rather oppose them; sooner rather than later. Some estimated 65 million humans on the western side lost their lives – may they rest in peace
